Simex Awarded $850K Contract to Supply Survival Locator Beacons
Simex Defence was awarded a $850K contract to supply Cobham ProFIND SLB1000 Survivor Locator Beacons to the Canadian Department of National Defense.
The SLB1000 Locator Beacons are designed for use in aircrew survival kits and life vests, and have several unique features.
The Locator Beacons have a rugged construction which can withstand a plane crash impact and the resulting fire and crushing. They are also waterproof up to 25 meters. They are quickly activated with a push of one button, and their flip-open cover makes them easy to use with or without gloves.
The Locator Beacons have an embedded GPS receiver which provides location accuracy to better than 100 meters within five minutes of activation, and they have two frequencies which offer homing on both the international civilian frequency and the military frequency. They are certified to meet the RTCA DO-183 and DO-204 environmental standards or a type (S) ELT, and they are Cospas-Sarsat certified as a CLASS 1 beacon for operation between -40° C to +55 °C for 24 hours. The SLB1000 have a self-test feature and are easily maintained. The batteries have a life of 5 years and can be easily changed when needed.
Simex has partnered with Life Support International to deliver these life saving devices to the Canadian Department of National Defense.
