Simex to Equip the Royal Canadian Air Cadets with Handheld GPS Units
Simex was awarded a contract worth over $350K to equip the Royal Canadian Air Cadets with Garmin eTrex® 30x Handheld GPS units. The first 1240 units will be delivered before the end of this year, with an option on an additional identical quantity next year.
The Garmin eTrex® 30x is a handheld GPS unit with a built in 3-axis compass, 2.2 inch, 65K color sunlight-readable display with 240 x 320 display pixels, worldwide basemap, and expanded memory.
The eTrex® 30x is durable and waterproof. It can withstand dust, dirt, humidity and has an IPX7 water rating. Its built-in 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass shows the user’s heading even when they are standing still and without holding it level. In addition it has a barometric altimeter which tracks changes in pressure, in order to determine the user’s exact altitude.
Another great feature of the eTrex® 30x is that it can track both GPS and GLONASS satellites simultaneously. It has the ability to lock on to 24 more satellites than GPS alone. It also has 3.7 GB of memory which can store up to 200 routes and load several types of map software.
